Frequently Asked Questions
Is boat insurance required?
Boat insurance can be required by your state and even marinas in order to dock your boat there. Additionally, if you bought the boat through a lender, they may require that you purchase insurance to cover the loan.
What kind of boats need boat insurance?
Watercraft with motors, such as fishing boats, pontoons, lesiure watercrafts, and yachts should all be covered with a boat insurance policy. Boat insurance is usually not designated for canoes, paddle boats, kayaks, or personal watercrafts such as wave runners or jet skis. For covering these items, you would need recreational vehicle insurance.
Is my boat covered while being transported on a trailer?
Coverage during overland transport varies carrier to carrier. Location from the home port, weight capacity of the transporting trailer, and who owns the transporting trailer are all factors in whether or not the boat would be covered during transporting. Speak with your advisor transportation specifics.
Do I need boat insurance if it’s off-season?
Generally year-round boat coverage is optional, althought it is highly recommended for a number of reasons. If you have a lease on your boat, you may required to keep the insurance year-round.
